Newly approved vaccines receive recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).

In the last few months, three new vaccines have received approval from the FDA:  meningococcal B [Trumenba (Pfizer) and Bexsero (Novartis)] and HPV [Gardasil 9 (Merck)].  The ACIP met in late February to discuss these vaccines and their recommendations to the CDC for potential incorporation into the current immunization schedule.  Here is a summary of the committee’s recommendations.

The CDC has published updated materials to assist providers in speaking with parents about the MMR vaccine.

Due to the increased number of measles cases in the United States so far in 2015, pediatric providers are fielding more questions from patient families about the safety and efficacy of the MMR vaccine.   Medical practices can utilize these updated materials to help with parent conversations and stay up to date on the status of the current measles outbreak.
